The status of citizens of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and citizens of British overseas territories will change significantly as of 1 January 2021. These categories of British nationals (henceforth third country nationals subject to the standard of thorough check-in) who areto cross the EU/SCH external border (e.g. travel from/to GB) for entry and short-term stay in the territory of the Member States not exceeding 90 days in any 180-day period should meet the conditions set out in this regard in Art. 6 et seq. of Regulation (EU) 2016/399 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 9 March 2016 on a Union Code on the rules governing the movement of persons across borders (Schengen Borders Code) - Official Journal UE L 77 of 23/03/2016 as amended, i.e .:
1. have a valid passport, issued within the last 10 years and valid for at least three months after the intended date of departure from the territory of the Member States;
2. justify the purpose and conditions of the planned stay and have sufficient means of subsistence, both for the duration of the planned stay and for return to the country of origin;
3. not to be a person for whom an alert has been issued for the purpose of refusing entry in the SIS;
4. not to be considered to constitute a threat to public policy, internal security, public health or the international relations of any of the Member States, and in particular have not been issued, on the same basis, by an alert for refusal of entry in the national databases of the Member States.
Attention! Failure to meet any of the above entry conditions may result in citizens of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and citizens of British overseas territories being refused entry, in accordance with the procedures provided for in the regulations of the European Union law in relation to the third-country nationals.
Moreover, this category of travellers will be obliged to use only the lanes marked "All passports" at border crossing points, and the fact of crossing the border, provided that it is a short-term stay, both for entry to and exit from the territory of the Member States will be confirmed each time by the Border Guard officers affixing a border control stamp in their passports.
Citizens of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and citizens of British overseas territories will also not be able to benefit from border checks using "Automated Border Control - ABC" solutions (option for airports).
